Located in Evanston, Illinois, the 2100 Greenwood Live/Work Lofts – developed by Lon Porter and Stephen Yas of 2100 Greenwood Lofts, LLC. – provide a cool,

downtown feel in a beautiful residential neighborhood.

Originally constructed in 1951 for the Maine Steel fabricating plant, the building was a 40,000-square-foot industrial facility complete with loading docks, overhead crane, bare structural steel, a brick exterior, and even a five-ton walk-in safe. The building was built in the “international” style by former students of legendary architect Mies van der Rohe.

For its “reincarnation,” the existing structures was divided into 27 live/work lofts averaging 1,500 square feet, each featuring sleeping mezzanines, open kitchen/living areas, walk-in closets, washer/dryer hook ups, 1˝ bathrooms, and modern kitchen and bathroom cabinets.

Located one block north of Dempster Street, 2100 Greenwood Street Live/Work Lofts includes a landscaped courtyard, private roof-top decks, a dog run, and heated indoor parking. Residents and visitors enter through a lobby featuring the exposed, refinished company safe and polished concrete floors. The 140-foot by 50-foot courtyard is carved out of the existing building to create a “donut” with two-story units surrounding it.

Designed by Stephen Yas architect and president of YAS Architecture, LLC., the lofts start at $299,000, about 20
